ABOUT US

History

Our rich history traces back to 1952 when Mike embarked on his farming and ranching journey. Over the decades, the Bishop family had diversified into various farming activities. Learn more about our journey here.

1952: Lee Bishop, returning from World War Two, introduced 1000 turkeys to the ranch, creating some memorable experiences

1954: Lee began a small dairy of 25 holstein milk cows alongside his Agriculture teaching profession.  They used surge milkers with surcingles and filled 10 gallon milk cans to be cooled in a cold water concrete tub. They also hand weeded many acres of corn during the summer months as well.  Mike, the oldest son, helped milk and hoed too much corn.

1958: The family moved to Bridgeland, Utah, expanding the farm's scope. They milked 80 head of Holsteins in a sixteen stall flat floor milk parlor.  They started with surge milkers and the surcingles and a 300 gallon milk tank.  They quickly installed a pipeline with four milkers with Mike and his 2 brothers doing most of the milking both morning and nights.  It usually took about 2 hours to milk and another hour to set up, clean up, and feed. They also farmed over 300 acres in alfalfa, corn and barley.

1961: A hailstorm struck, completely destroying all crops in mid July, prompting a move to southern Nevada and an end to farming as they knew it.

2016:At the age of 70, the old saying, “you can take the boy out of the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the boy” came true for Mike. He finally  realized his dream of raising top-quality Polled Hereford seedstock with a focus on genetics, leading to the foundation of MDB Polled Herefords, LLC.

Ranch

Our ranch is home to a select herd of 25 cows. We utilize AI for breeding, aiming to produce at least 20 calves per year. Our approach ensures that each animal’s natural traits and pedigree are developed to their full potential.
